Exact target

  • external-reference · oam-multimode-conservation — operator-supplied OAM and multimode conservation proposal

Minimal decisive protocol

Mode-resolved conservation balance

Prepare known input OAM and transverse modes, apply a declared interaction, and compare input and output modal charge and energy balances with phase-resolved readout.

  1. Calibrate mode sorter and phase reference.
  2. Inject randomized known mode tuples.
  3. Acquire complex modal amplitudes before and after interaction.
  4. Compute conserved and leaked modal quantities.

Decision rule: Conservation survives only if all declared balance residuals stay within the uncertainty interval and mode leakage controls are bounded.

Boundary: Finite mode basis and one interaction geometry only.

Controls

  • negative: Bypass the interaction element. (interaction strength; No interaction should preserve the calibrated baseline.)
  • randomized: Randomize input modal phases and tuple order. (input phase; Balance should not depend on arbitrary ordering.)

Observables and units

Calibration and repetitions

  • modal cross-talk matrix: single-mode calibration sweep — cross-talk matrix stable over the acquisition block (fraction)

Replicate unit: independent mode tuple; minimum 40, independent 8.

Randomization: tuple, phase, and interaction order randomized

Stopping rule: predeclared block completion

Uncertainty: phase reference, mode sorter cross-talk, detector noise, basis truncation; calibrated covariance and bootstrap over independent tuples; publish residuals and leakage by tuple

Success and falsifiers

Success

  • Declared modal balance residuals remain within the calibration-aware tolerance. (balance residual <= predeclared tolerance fraction)

Falsifiers

  • Residual modal charge changes beyond uncertainty or leakage tracks an unmodeled interaction channel. (normalized residual > predeclared falsifier threshold fraction)

Required capability groups

  • mode-analysis · required, any-one, quantity 1: phase-resolved OAM and multimode sorter (system) — cross-talk calibration and complex readout

Related capability types: Phase-resolved OAM and multimode sorter

Confounds and raw artifacts

  • unobserved modes carry the apparent imbalance: expand the basis and report tails; mitigation: repeat with increasing basis size
  • complex-modal-trace · HDF5 plus calibration JSON · retain all modes used in balance

Nonclaims

  • Conservation in a finite optical basis does not establish a universal law.
  • This fixture does not claim a computation, collision rule, or physical admission.
